Triathlete sacrifices chance to win to help brother across the finish line
Monday. Ugh. We know. Monday’s are awful.
But you know? Here’s something to make it feel better. The Brownlee brothers both captured gold and silver and this year’s Olympic games, and after crossing the finish line on that occasion, shared a powerful moment in celebration together.
Now, at the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final Cozumel, they shared an equally powerful moment.
Jonny Brownlee was leading the triathlon when his legs began to shake. He could barely stand, and he looked like was about to forfeit the race. But then his brother, Alistair, came along. Leading his nearest competitor in a close race for second, he walked over to Jonny, put his arm around him, and ran with him across the finish line.
It was beautiful.
